Volunteer for our annual nationwide community service event during the month of April, in commemoration of Excelsior’s charter month.
Who Cares, and Why?
Everybody Cares! Excelsior, Regents, and USNY alumni participate in this annual event, performing acts of service within their own communities. Mostly because it’s a great opportunity to make a difference close to home. And it offers you the opportunity of meeting other local alumni living in your area.
You can even ask family and friends to join you. Just be sure to check with your service site about any age restrictions.
What qualifies as Excelsior Cares service?
If it seems like a service experience, it probably is. It can be a regular gig or a one-time event. Think about what you may be already doing: Regular blood donation? That counts. Helping at your child’s school? That counts, too. Participating in a service project at work? Yup! Here are a few more examples:
- Walking dogs at an animal shelter
- Sorting food at a pantry
- Collecting donations of food, clothing, or supplies for organizations
- Cleaning up a park
- Tending a community garden
- Making birthday bags for children in homeless shelters
- Shelving books at the library
- Delivering meals to shut-ins
Three Ways to Participate
Join a Project
We’ll try to connect you with an alum who is leading a project near your community. Here’s the current list of projects. Use your Alumni Community login to see project descriptions and a registration link.
Lead a Project
If you already volunteer in your community, recruit a group of alumni to join you! Or, if you don’t currently have a regular volunteer gig, identify an opportunity, let us know what you’d like to do, and (if approved) we’ll help you recruit a group of fellow graduates to join you!
If you already plan to volunteer in your community during the month of April, tell us about your activity and be counted toward the total impact made by Excelsior alumni during this time. Email a description of your April volunteer work to email@example.com
