Given the scope of Business and Public Service offerings, preferred academic preparation includes a doctorate in business, public administration, public policy, organizational leadership, or a related field, or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in a relevant business or public service discipline. Candidates with demonstrated expertise in public sector leadership, governance, program evaluation, and applied research are strongly encouraged to apply.
This role is fully remote. Remote employees will be required to engage in periodic campus meetings, retreats, conferences, and professional development sessions. The University provides the required equipment; employees must maintain a professional home workspace suitable for virtual meetings.
Department Leadership and Administration
- Lead academic operations for graduate and doctoral Business and Public Service programs, maintaining strategic and operational plans aligned with School and University goals.
- Serve as the primary departmental liaison to the School of Business, Provost’s Office, Enrollment Management, and other cross-functional units.
- Ensure compliance with University, State, and specialized accreditation standards.
- Coordinate program pathways and course schedules that support student progress, program efficiency, and equitable faculty workload distribution.
- Manage course registrations, faculty assignments, and quality benchmarks in accordance with university standards.
- Provide direct, ongoing coaching to faculty and monitor faculty performance to ensure effective teaching in Excelsior’s online learning model, including consistent use of the Faculty Checklist, Faculty Playbook, communication expectations, and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Recruit, appoint, evaluate, and support faculty throughout the full lifecycle of their teaching and service responsibilities.
- Maintain and update departmental catalog information and work with marketing teams to ensure accurate representation of programs across digital and print platforms.
- Guide curriculum planning, alignment, and revision across graduate and doctoral Business and Public Service programs in accordance with university priorities, learning outcomes, and accreditation requirements.
- Provide academic leadership for the development, refinement, and launch of doctoral programs, including applied doctoral pathways aligned with scholar-practitioner models.
- Foster a culture of innovation and excellence in course design, leveraging instructional design collaboration and evidence-based practices.
- Participate in the yearly program review processes and collaborate on the assessment of program learning outcomes and general education outcomes.
- Oversee critical fix workflows to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality updates to courses. Use faculty observations, student feedback, assessment data, and quality review findings to identify needed fixes and prioritize improvements.
- Partner with instructional designers and faculty subject-matter experts to execute fixes, maintain course accuracy, correct inconsistencies, and address emergent student-experience issues during live terms.
- Ensure that critical fixes inform longer-term curriculum improvements by documenting patterns, root causes, and opportunities for systemic updates across programs.
- Engage in student-success data reviews and apply evidence-based insights to improve program quality, curriculum coherence, and faculty effectiveness.
- Evaluate transfer credit and prior learning assessments in collaboration with academic evaluators to ensure consistency and rigor.
- Support development and launch of new or redesigned academic programs at the direction of the Dean.
- Teach within the University’s established workload model, with assignments that reflect subject-matter expertise in business, public service, public administration, leadership, governance, or related fields.
- Maintain a scholarly and applied practice agenda aligned with School and University priorities.
- Engage department faculty in university and community service activities as appropriate.
- Earned doctorate in business, public administration, public policy, organizational leadership, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of seven years of higher education teaching experience across multiple modalities, including fully online instruction.
- At least five years of progressive academic leadership experience with responsibility for graduate and/or doctoral programs.
- Demonstrated experience with doctoral education, including applied research models, dissertation or doctoral project supervision, and oversight of doctoral rigor.
- Proven success with accreditation, outcomes assessment, and program review at the graduate level.
- Experience recruiting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing graduate and doctoral faculty.
- Strong ability to lead complex academic programs, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across academic and administrative units.
- Academic and industry expertise in business AND public service preferred.
