About Tony Spearman-Leach

Tony Spearman-Leach is director of development and philanthropy at the National Academy of Public Administration. He has enjoyed a varied professional life that has included careers in business, science, technology, and the arts. He also conducts workshops and trainings for international nonprofit and NGO leaders selected for the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange: the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

Spearman-Leach has been a member of the Alumni Leadership Council at Excelsior University since 2021 and became president of the Excelsior University Alumni Association and its Alumni Leadership Council in July 2023.

He is committed to and has a passion for volunteerism and community involvement. He is a Leadership Montgomery (Maryland) board member and 2018 Leadership Montgomery CORE (Connecting Our Regions Execs) alumnus. His current community leadership service also includes board director of the Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, board director of the Montgomery College Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science & Technology (PIC MC), U.S. Selective Service System Local board member, chair of the Josiah Henson Park & Museum Advisory Board, and board director for Story Tapestries Inc.

His efforts have attained many commendations and honors, including 2013 Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International Conference Diversity Scholar and 2015 AFP Bridge Conference Scholar. His communication and multimedia skills have also won several awards, including the Alliance for Community Media’s Overall Excellence national award for a PEG (Public, Educational & Governmental) television station, Telly Awards, and an Emmy Award-winning series of public service announcements for Toyota and Fox Sports Networks (FSN).
