Alumni Leadership Council
The Alumni Leadership Council (ALC) consists of 12 members reflecting the diverse nature of Excelsior’s alumni population. ALC members serve 3-year terms.

- Membership self-nominations will be accepted beginning in January, with a final submission deadline of January 31 annually.
- Top candidates will be selected and notified by early February and will be invited to interview with members of the ALC awards and nominations committee throughout the month.
- The Office of Alumni Engagement will notify selected top applicants on behalf of the Alumni Leadership Council’s awards and nominations committee by mid-March.
- Final decisions will be made by mid-March and all applicants will be notified of their application status.
- Excelsior University’s process requires background checks for all ALC finalists before being added to the Alumni Association ballot to vote for ratification. The University uses Justifacts for this process. Final candidates will be required to participate in a background check prior to being placed on the Alumni Association voting ballot.
- The Alumni Association will vote on the ratification of incoming ALC slates via an open online vote in April.
- Attend Commencement and related activities in Albany, NY each year in July. Travel and lodging costs are covered by Excelsior University, per Excelsior’s travel policy for ALC members.
- Participate in regularly scheduled teleconferences/webinars and occasional regional events.
- Make a financial contribution to the Excelsior University Annual Fund in an amount of your choosing throughout each term.
- Join an Alumni Leadership Council committee.
- Be available for publicity events, articles, and similar activities.
- Consent to a background check during the application process if selected as a final candidate.
Additionally, if you apply for a seat on the ALC and an alumni award (or multiple awards), selection for one will automatically disqualify you from being considered for the others.
