Appeal of Final Grades
The appeal of final grades procedure applies only to students taking Excelsior University sources of credit. A formal grade appeal will be pursued only if the student presents evidence of error, bias, or capriciousness in determining/scoring the student's final grade.
Note: Refer to the Academic Integrity Policy if an academic integrity violation is suspected and involved in determining the final grade.
Appeal of Final Grade Process for Excelsior University Courses
- Students with questions regarding their final course grade should contact the instructor using the course message system within 10 calendar days after the end of the course term, during which students still have course access.
- Students who are unable to resolve the issue with the instructor should contact the student support team at 877-852-5692 or studentsupport@excelsior.edu for assistance.
- Students who have been unsuccessful with resolving the grade issue have the right to file an appeal within 60 days of the end of the course. The appeal should include all the following and should be submitted in writing to studentsupport@excelsior.edu.
- course name
- course department and number
- term
- the student’s name and ID number
- instructor’s name
- a detailed explanation of the grounds for appeal including supporting documentation
The department chair of the school offering the course will investigate the appeal and render a final decision within 30 days of receipt of the appeal.
The grade appeal decision is final. No further appeal will be accepted.
