  • Application – Click Alaska Board of Nursing for the application and full instructions to apply for RN licensure by examination.
  • Nursing Program Verification Form – Complete the top section of the form. To request that we complete Section II, click and download, Request for Board of Nursing Application Processing form. Submit both forms to Excelsior via fax: 518-464-8665, mail, or message center. The Excelsior State Board Office will process and submit the form within a week of graduation.

    The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) has established rules and regulations specifying general education core requirements for Arkansas students. We want you to know that your Excelsior degree will not satisfy the general education core requirements established by the AHECB. Although most of the general education requirements are aligned, there are some credits required by the AHECB which are not required by the New York State Board of Regents for the award of an Excelsior degree.

The California Board of Nursing does not license Excelsior University graduates by examination or by endorsement.

The Colorado Board of Nursing requires LPNs to complete a 350-hour preceptorship and non-LPNs are required to complete a 750-hour preceptorship prior to receiving a license. You need to apply for a student permit and complete these clinical hours. The Colorado Board of Nursing administers the preceptorship.

Complete the following:

Apply for Student Permit for the Preceptorship – complete and submit to the Office of Licensing:

  • Click Application for Special or Student Permit – application is available in the Registered Nurse Applications and Forms under additional applications, forms and checklists. Do not leave any spaces blank, if not applicable, indicate “N/A”.
  • Instructor/Preceptor Agreement form – must be signed by your preceptor and the administrator at the facility where you will be doing the preceptorship.
  • Official transcript – To request your official transcript to be submitted to the Board of Nursing with the conferral date, click the online transcript request link and follow the prompts. The Registrar’s Office will release the transcript on or after your graduation date.

After the preceptorship is completed and you receive the completed Skills checklist –

  • Application – Apply online click Colorado Board of Nursing for the application.
  • Non-Traditional/Refresher Program Skills Checklist – Submit the original signed checklist in its original sealed envelope with the application.
  • Pearson Vue – Register with Pearson VUE to take the NCLEX-RN.

A copy of the form will be emailed to you through the MyExcelsior message center to upload to your online application. The original information will be mailed directly to the Board of Nursing.

Excelsior University graduates may sit for the NCLEX-RN and earn a provisional license. They will hold that provisional license until they complete 500 hours of supervised practice and then will be issued a full RN license.

Complete the following:

  • Application – Visit the Texas Board of Nursing website for instructions on how to apply for RN licensure by examination.
  • Nursing Jurisprudence Examination – You will be required to pass this examination prior to being issued the authorization to test. Information is provided on the Board’s website.
  • Affidavit of Graduation form – To request completion of this form by Excelsior University, use the online Request for Board of Nursing Application Processing. Excelsior State Board Office will process and submit the form within a week of your status being updated from EN (enrolled) to SA (specialist approved).

Before applying, call the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Nursing regarding the required documents needed for completing Excelsior’s nursing program. The VA BON will issue a provisional RN license with requirements to work for a predetermined number of hours, under supervision, before being issued an RN license.

For graduates who were eligible for admission as LPNs, the required number of hours is 350.

100 hours of credit may be applied for applicants who have successfully completed a nursing education program that:

a) Requires students to pass competency based assessments of nursing knowledge as well as a summative performance assessment of clinical competency that has been evaluated by the American Council on Education or any other board-approved organization: and

b) Has a passage rate for first-time takers on the NCLEX that is not less than 80% calculated on the cumulative results of the past four quarters of all graduates in each calendar year regardless of where the graduate is seeking licensure.

For all other graduates, the required number of hours is 500.
