Future-Proof Your Career with a BS in Cybersecurity
Aligned with the academic requirements set by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Excelsior University’s BS in Cybersecurity program is designed to prepare you for cybersecurity jobs in the U.S. Cyber Command; the NSA’s signal intelligence operations; law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and corporate environments.
Excelsior is proud to be a designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program supports the NSA’s belief that cybersecurity should be integrated into all aspects of a person’s career. The hands-on curriculum makes sure you have the skills you need for positions on the front lines of cyber defense, and that you’re prepared to take industry certification exams such as CISP, CEH, Security+, Network+, CHFI, SSCP, and ESCP.

In addition to the fully online format, the BS in Cybersecurity program is offered as a hybrid option with both fully online courses and hybrid courses that blend online and in-person learning. Required in-person class sessions are held in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the evenings or on the weekends. These on-site experiences reinforce what you’ll learn online, and you’ll use cybersecurity tools, systems, and collaborative problem solving to gain the applied skills, leadership qualities, and confidence you need for career success. Each hybrid course requires a three-hour in-person session every other week, for a total of 12 hours on-site per course per term.

Learn how to address advanced cyber threats, cybercrime, and terrorism. With a focus on both technical and organizational aspects of cybersecurity, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of organizational behavior, reverse engineering, and large-scale crime.
Expand your cybersecurity knowledge and strengthen the essential skills you need for securing diverse technological environments. This flexible concentration allows you to tailor coursework to fit your individual career goals, drawing from a variety of areas, including business continuity, computer forensics, and mobile and cloud environments. Institutional Accreditation
Excelsior University is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the Commission) www.msche.org. Excelsior University’s accreditation status is accreditation reaffirmed. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on June 23, 2022 was to reaffirm accreditation. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission’s geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.

The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security designated Excelsior as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education for its Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program. The CAE program is administered by the CAE in Cybersecurity Community.
FAQ
Choosing the fully online option in the BS in Cybersecurity program means that you’ll access everything through a 24/7 online class portal, where you will submit work, connect with your instructor, and engage with classmates. In the hybrid format, you’ll complete your coursework online through the same portal that our fully online students do, but you’ll also attend in-person lab sessions held in St. Petersburg, Florida, for three hours every other week.
A Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program focuses on protecting computer systems and data from cyberthreats, whereas a BS in Computer Science program provides a broader foundation in computing principles, including software development, algorithms, and data analysis. An IT degree is more focused on the practical application of technology within organizations, including managing and maintaining computer systems and networks.
