Cancel, Reschedule, and Failure to Show for Nursing Theory Conference Examination or Excelsior College Examination in Nursing Appointment

Statement of Policy

Examination refers to either the examination portion of the Nursing Theory Conference Examination (NTCX) or the Excelsior College® Examinations in nursing.

  • Each Nursing Theory Conference Examination (NTCX) is 8 weeks in length.  The corresponding examination must be completed by the end of that same term.   Students who meet the criteria to test will receive the authorization to test (ATT) letter in week 7.

Students who schedule an examination with the College’s designated testing center, and who fail to show for the exam on the scheduled test date, will have until the end of the term to take action. During the term the student may cancel or reschedule an exam appointment. Refer to Courses and Nursing Theory Conference Examinations Withdrawal and Refund Policy and Extensions.

  • Students who do not take the exam during the term for which they were approved, and who do not request to be withdrawn or receive an extension, will receive a grade of F at the end of the term.
  • Students who register for an examination with Excelsior College, but do not schedule to take the exam at a designated testing center, or request an extension by the end of the term, will earn a grade of F.

Student may cancel or reschedule an examination appointment as outlined in the A User’s Guide: Using Examinations to Accomplish Individual Goals (PDF). See also Excelsior College® Examinations and UExcel® Exam Refunds and Extensions. Fees may apply.

Procedure

Cancelling an Examination Appointment

Students must cancel their examination appointments through Pearson VUE.

  • Any student who cancels an exam appointment through the Pearson VUE Web scheduler must do so by 7:00 pm Central Time at least one business day (a minimum of 24 hours) in advance of their scheduled appointment time.
  • Any student who cancels an exam appointment via the Pearson VUE Candidate Call Center must do so at least 7 calendar days before the date of the exam appointment. A Call Center fee may apply to the cancellation.
  • Students should refer to Pearson VUE policies in regards to scheduling fees.

Note: Cancellation of an exam appointment is not a withdrawal from the NTCX. Refer to Courses and Nursing Theory Conference Examinations Withdrawal and Refund Policy for more information on how to withdraw from the NTCX.

Rescheduling an Exam Appointment

Students will not incur any additional penalties or fees if they reschedule to take an exam, within a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. The exam must be completed before the end of the term. Students must reschedule exam appointments through Pearson VUE.

  • If the student contacts Pearson VUE, within less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment for the exam, the student will be charged a new seat time fee when rescheduling the new appointment to take the exam.

Students who may need additional time after the end of the term to reschedule and take the examination must request an extension. (See the Extensions policy for NTCX specific information.)

  • Prior to requesting an extension the student must cancel the appointment with the Pearson VUE. Once the appointment is canceled, the student must contact Excelsior College to request the extension. After the student receives the response about the extension request, the student must contact Pearson VUE to make a new appointment and pay the appropriate seat time fees.
  • Students should refer to Pearson VUE policies in regards to scheduling fees.

Failure to Show for an Exam Appointment

Students scheduled for an exam with Pearson VUE who fail to show for the exam on their scheduled test date will have until the end of the term to take action.

Students scheduled for an exam with a Pearson VUE testing center and fail to show for the exam on the scheduled test date will receive a grade of F.

Students who register for an examination with the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM) at Excelsior College, but do not schedule to take the exam at a Pearson VUE testing center, or request an extension by the end of the term approved to take the exam, will earn a grade of F.

Students, who earn a grade of F for failure to show for a registered or scheduled exam due to extraordinary circumstance, can submit a letter of appeal to the Director of Testing Services in the Test Administration office.  The appeal must include an explanation of the extraordinary circumstance along with official documentation validating the extraordinary circumstance.  If approved, the Director of Testing Services will enter the exam registration in SIS and change the grade of F to a grade of I.  When the student completes the exam within the exam window, SIS will automatically update the grade of I to the final grade.  If the student fails to show for the registered or scheduled nursing theory examination again, the grade of I will change to a grade of F.

Students must provide the required 24 hour lead-time for cancellations or rescheduling of an appointment, or request the 50% refund as outlined in A User’s Guide: Using Examinations to Accomplish Individual Goals (PDF).

Note: Students should refer to Pearson VUE policies in regards to scheduling fees.
