NURSING CAPSTONE

Capstone is designed as a culminating nursing course for the RN baccalaureate student with opportunities to collaborate with peers in shaping healthcare practices. Emphasis is on the application of ANA Standards and Code of Ethics; patient-centeredness and quality outcomes; ethical reasoning and moral courage; and evidence-based projects that are meaningful to the student s learning within today s complex health care systems. Discussions focus on advocating for holistic, caring practice environments based on empirical and theoretical evidence; transforming healthcare environments to support best practices and upholding professional values inherent to the nursing profession; and predicting future direction to meet the ever changing technologies and diversity of healthcare services. Reflections upon the student s achievements of learning outcomes throughout the program provide personal insights into the student s successes and accomplishments; support for one s professional identity; and embodying a vision and philosophy of professional nursing.   This course includes 20 hours of practice experience. Satisfactory performance in the practice experience of this course is required for a passing grade in the course.

Prerequisite: Written English Requirement, INL 102: Information Literacy, Ethics, all nursing requirements, and be within 6 credits of completion of general education requirements. Active and unencumbered RN license.
